• ** please note this site/porfolio has not been updated in quite awhile. I am only taking very limited projects at the moment that cater to my own artistic visions and inspirations.

    Reny - 5.18.18

Today's technology has made it possible for anyone to pick up a camera (or even an iPhone) and proudly proclaim themselves a photographer! But this isn't necessarily an evil thing, it has allowed some to express themselves whom otherwise wouldn't have been able to 20 years ago. I consider myself an artist first and photographer 2nd, although depending on who you ask, those two terms are one in the same.

This blog represents my never ending exploration and learning into my self expression using the camera as my tool. Although I do a great deal of commercial work these days, my focus is almost always finding ways to express myself artistically by communicating with my viewers with each new image I create.

Bragging rights

I know, my shoots are almost always of some half naked female…but I snuck a few snaps in today of my wife.  And these are just purely for bragging…;-)   I’m so proud of  her,   just 7 months ago she had our daughter Lucera Rei, and now she’s been training hard to enter her first Figure competition this  year.

5 months of training down...

So if you happen to be in Hungary this summer…

…pick up the June or July issue of the Hungarian version of Tattoo Magazine and check me out. European journalist, Akos Banfalvi asked to interview me on my photography and recent exploration into capturing tattooed individuals.

Journalist - Akos Banfalvi - photo by Boldizsar Laki-Lukacs (www.diffikult.com)

So how did Akos, a music journalist for Rockinform Magazine and Tattoo Hungary find me, a no name (or yet to be…) photographer down in the Big Easy? The internet and the wonderful world of social networking! I thought for sure it was the Inked Girls shots since it was right around that time he contacted me. But nope, Myspace. lol. He saw some of my Ratheal set I had posted on there and wanted to see more.

So anyways, it was a short set of questions and I probably sound quite boring but I appreciate any exposure I can get. I sent in about 30 shots or so for the editor to choose from of my most recent shoots. Mostly other tattoo photos but some non. They asked for some of my work in general, so I’m stoked that some of my other work may get printed! And to you ladies who worked with me, model’s, mua, hair stylist…They specifically asked for all credit involved. After all it takes a good team to make great photography.

They’ll be sending me a couple issues once it hits the stands, so check back this summer for scans.

NETWORKING & PROMOTION…

Thought I’d do up a blog on a few recent people I’ve met or did business with!

First off – http://www.sazeracdesign.com/

Naomi Celestin over at Sazerac Design has been helping me with a new website I wanted to l aunch.  Http://www.Bombshelterstudios.net.   Naomi started Sazerac in 2005 and since has been striving to provide quality web, content and graphical design for her clients.  I know, I know  many of you are leery of an all flash website but today’s advancements make them much more search engine and browser friendly.   For those of you still bogging down, quit your bitchin’ and take your ass to upgrade your old 386 machine.  It’s time.

As far as the new site  and name?   Flipstylelphotography.com will still stay up and I’ll always be Flipstyle but legally the company name (as far as the IRS) will be Bomb Shelter Studios.  Still tweaking it out, but check it! More info on it coming soon!

Moving along…

So a few years ago, actually much longer than that… I was searching for domains with flipstyle, I came across http://www.flipstylepro.com.  A blog site dedicated to Music, arts, design and fashion.   Pretty cool, browsed it for a bit but eventually moved on.  Well, low and behold about 2 weeks ago the owner/creator of the site Erwin Sean Caravana (aka Flipstyle) found and contacted me on Facebook.  Being a “flip” (derogatory for Filipino) himself, we hit it off and decided to do some site networking.

A little info on Flipstyle Productions

Erwin, a New Jersey born native has been musically inclined since a child.  His love for music eventually brought him on a career path of music by way of being a Professional DJ.  Influenced by the likes of DJ Qbert, MixMaster Mike, DJ A-Trak, Jam Master Jay, Grandmaster Flash among others, his love of this profession eventually brought him to start Flipstyle Productions – His own record label.  Slowly, Flipstyle Productions found more talented members who are good friends of Erwin and are willing to work as a team. They are David ( D-Gunz ) , Nick ( Spinz ), Fulbert ( Cue ), and Toya D.   Flipstyle Productions is presently in studio with their first new tracks with their first signed artist -Scruff.

Here’s a few samples of their style of  beats often used during rap battles.

Be sure to check them out – http://www.flipstylepro.com/

Renee Ramos!

Thought I’d save this last part for a great MUA with one of THE COOLEST NAMES around…  Renee Ramos!  I know right?  but there’s no relation there.   Renee first contacted me little over a year ago all up in my jock trying to hook up a date….haha, j/k Renee.  She contacted wanting to possibly gtg for a collaboration sometime and I’m sorry it took this long to finally get it done.  Proficient in both Makeup and hair, she’s soon to be graduate of  the Aveda Institute here in New Orleans, although been professionally doing MUA for about 5 years now.  Only in  her early 20′s, she’s got plenty of time improve upon the already great skill she possesses!

She’s worked with me on 2 shoots thus far – both Inked Girls Mag shoots.  The Gabrielle Bezett shoot from a previous blog post and the latest with Jessica Masters (Also a MUA/Stylist).  Here’s a sample shot -

Jessica Masters - Like Rock Star!

GREAT shoot!  As expected, Renee did a great job and Jessica really came through.  This being her first time having modeled, I was impressed by her ease in front of the camera.  Nothing worse than a pretty girl who only looks like a deer in the headlights once you aim the lens at her.  Thanks to both you ladies!  Also, Would like to thank Jerome Gacula aka Mo Beast aka Mo B for attending and assisting with this shoot as well as letting us use your dope ass pimpin’ 79 Lincoln Continental.    That rig has had more fine wimins in it than Micheal Jackson has had kids over for dinner and playtime.   (haha Is it still too soon Dick?)

The Cult of Personality…

is the song playing right now…

So after rushing to schedule some shoots, actually getting them done and bussin’ ass to edit them in time…I’m told there’s an extension to the 31st of March.  Well, at least I got those 2 shoots done and now have time to possibly shoot 2 more come end of March.

Although I won’t show exactly what my submissions are for this issue, I’ll let ya sneak a peak at a shot from each set that won’t be submitted.  Or at least not these variations of.

Gabby – The effect on this shot is actually a cheap LR preset I was playing with.  It’s supposed to mimic an Ansel Adam’s type of photo.  Thought it was pretty cool myself, and kinda acts like how the car manufacturers disguise there new concept cars with weird black material all over the car.  The original non-Ansel preset is one I am submitting.

Gabby

My 2nd shoot was with Liz Brutal.  If your memory holds true or click back some posts, you’ll see this is the model for my BTS shoot for my buddy Mo’s Seedy motel set.  Censored here… but click it if you are a perv.   (No nudity in the magazine, so this one obviously won’t be sent in)

Liz Brutal

If all goes well, I’ll have 2 more models to shoot and submit.  They told me to send in as much as I can and they’ll just use excess for the next issue…but I’m running out of tattooed models!! Well, at least the ones I’d take pictures of.

Big thanks to Renee Ramos for makeup on the Gabrielle shoot! OH! and ladies, thanks for taking care of your skin.  I only had to smooth 1 shot in one of the shoots.  You can guess which one when the issue comes out.

flip  …out.
